The internet isn't the real life. After reading
so much already in advance about setlists and watching you tube files some
of the excitement about the upcoming show and it's surprises had been killed
and I was expecting a routine show. But I underestimated the magic of the
real thing. As soon as I entered the arena it felt like something was going
to happen. (I don't have that feeling when I open a you tube clip...)
The show was very good and powerfull. And although I prefer the really dark
side of the cure this was an evening full of very diverse Cure mood
swings. After a strong opening with Plainsong/Prayers for Rain/A Strange
Day the hits were blended in but it worked very well. Standing out for
me was the way Robert's voice sounded (better than ever) and the metallic
sound of his guitar in the dark songs. Overall sound quality of the songs
was amazing. They all sounded 10000 times better than on you tube. I had
forced myself not to listen to "A boy I never knew" in advance and I liked
it a lot on first hearing. "Please Project" wasn't to spectacular and " Freak
Show" fitted in perfectly in the silly pop song encore. As stated before
Robert would let us choose between 6 pop songs or 4 songs from the faith
album (equal loud response to both options) and after the pop encore and
the very energetic old school encore " Faith" still came as a surprise, like
a reward for the enthousiasm. The end seemed to blend into "Forever" but
then the signature riff of " A forest" came across... Great end of a great
evening.
A big salute to Porl from my wife for playing the whole evening on 6 inch
or more high heel fetish boots!
It was really good to see them play for over three hours with such determination
(even though this was the penultimate show of the Euro tour) and such pleasure.
And I'm not scared of aging anymore (Robert is 5 years ahead of me...).
Dear America, brace yourself for some excellent Cure shows!
Damn I'm starting up you tube again...

Want to let you know that the sold out Rotterdam Ahoy show was amazing.
It was my 9th Cure show, the first was in 1984 (the most special was
in
1996), but this was by far the best Cureshow I've ever seen. Holland loves
The Cure and The Cure loves Holland.
Never saw the band in such a good shape.
Sound was incredible good. Public went wild. Never saw that before.
Robert was funny, kind, brilliant, gorgeous, adorable.
Jason drummed very very well.
Simon as good as always.
Porl's guitar play was amazing and he played so concentrated.
Nice setlist.
A very emotional A boy I never knew.
A very emotional Lovesong.
Primary: wow, never heard it that powerful.
Robert: "Do you want 4 songs of faith or 6 popsongs? Or both?"
They played the popsongs and they played FAITH. Wow.
I believed at the end of faith that Robert was playing the intro of FOREVER
but it turned into A Forest. Simon almost killed his guitar at the end, he
went wild while Robert, Jason and Porl were looking at him.
You must see this Cure, it's a happening you'll never forget.

This was the best from the 3 4tour concerts i have been to !!!!!
The crowd was amazing ! The setlist was great ! Finally they played :
fire in cairo, mabye someday and ofcourse FAITH ! Robert and the band where
in very good mood .. the audiance had to decied which encore would be played;
4 songs from faith or 6 poppy songs. But there was not enough time to do
4 songs from faith. As an encore the played : faith and then A forest. Which
is maybe for the dutch crowd better. A forest is a very popular song here
in The Netherlands (voted by 3fm listeners 2 times for best pop song from
the '80s)
The biggest suprise was for me : The love cats !!! If you read my review
of the oberhausen show i wrote: i hope they play the love cats and faith....AND
THEY DID BOTH !!!
Normally they play a very standard setlist in The Netherlands (except the
second gig in ahoy back in 1987...that was amazing to). This time not. So
i want to thank The Cure for the three concerts this year i attended this
year !
I hope to attend more concerts the next tour !

It was a lovely evening!
The band look happy and they seems to have a great time on stage!
Robert spanks Porl on the bud. Porl kissed Simon and there was a
real "band thing" going on!
It was my 31st Cure-concert in lifetime andI think it was one of
best gigs I ever seen.
Great setlist, very powerfull and sometimes real poppy. Sometimes Robert
was very emotional.
During "A boy I knever Knew" and "Faith" I have the impression he was crying.
(wasn't he?)
Thanks to the Cure and the audience for a unforgetable night x

Having seen The Cure with this line up for
the first time in France Saint Malot festival 2005. I had mixed emotions.
I then was (still am) very excited that Porl returned, but found out that
the songs do sound different without Mr. Rogers (Sorry Perry lovers,
me likum Porl) So a little skeptic I went to see the cure last night.
The performance last night was brilliant. Here I am thinking this band
is on its way out why the complete opposite happened. You could really tell
Robert is in good spirit, we even got the him walking around the stage –
was that some dancing I saw there - and he spoke more than the
five words we get normally. The one thing you shouldn’t do if you still have
a show ahead is to look at what the cure sounded like and how songs are supposed
to sound – whatever that may mean – The Cure now is a good band performing
their songs at their best. Sound quality is good, the four of them playing
really well together and Roberts voice better than ever. (also lots of ‘dud
du du’ and ‘oo oo oohs’ we like)
One little thing - to be a bit of a pain – where the %$#& did all of
Roberts nice guitars go. Can’t even pronounce brand Schecter that he’s playing
now. On songs like Faith and pictures of you, I think I do miss the fender
VI. But again shouldn’t look back to much, this is them now and well,
now they ROCK.
Highlights of the evening:
- Faith with additional lyrics
- Push – personal favourite
- Pictures of you – again personal
favourite
- PORL IS BACK
Made us feel young again.
