After a brief rest after the Austin show, I was once again fired
up for "one more time" in Houston. (heheh - wouldve been cool to hear
that again)
I met Sara up at the Toyota Center and she and i head on in.
I got stopped at the gate with my 2 dozen blood red roses (bloodflowers
hehe) - they would not let me take them in - I wanted to cry cry cry!!!
So I had to leave them with the stupid security ppl who SWORE they would
give them to the band. I should have left and walked around the building
and handed the flowers to Sara through the smoking section fence - GOD -
i am killing myself for not doing that!!! AAAGGHHH!
anyway - i had front row - so what the hell was i complaining about.
Sara had 12th but i told her to hang out with me up front until they made
her leave -well they never did! it was her first time seeing the cure
and she got to see them from the front row!!!
we were right in front of porl - who is one of the biggest flirts
by the way!!! he makes great eye contact throughout the entire show!
i found myself watching him more than robert! he made bedroom flirty
eyes at sara all night! so freakin cool!
i made a sign with a notepad i had in my bag that read "DID U GET
MY ROSES?" and held it up for robert to see. porl saw it first - and
gave me this look like "uhhhh...i dont know, i dont think so" and
then i held it up for robert and he squinted his eyes to read it during
kyoto song, tucks the mic under his chin and gave the same kind of look
that porl did. i was all...FUCK!! damn security ppl!!
then i held it up again later for robert to see and i mouthed "so no?"
and he smiled, kinda laughed, and mouthed "fuck i have no clue" something
like that and shrugged his shoulders.
oh i was pissed!!! then i realized - i was chattin it up with
porl and robert freakin smith! then i felt a bit better. good
times. good times.
the highlights of the show for me were all the bloodflowers songs
- god i love that album. i also never get tired of push and deep green
sea, and the old school encore ROCKED MY WORLD!!! and i nearly died
when he sang a boy i never knew. i got video of it - pretty good too
- the first part got cut off a little - but i am embarrassed to post because
you can hear me singing at the end!
another memory - although not pleasant - i tried to dive for the
setlist and some ASSHOLE pushed me out of the way and i pretty much ate
it on those metal folding chairs. and i think i broke my toe.
hurts like hell and is all black and blue - even at the base of my foot.
stupid asshole. he didnt get the setlist either! HA!
but man what a beautiful show. favored this one over Austin.
next is NYC!!! woooohooooo!!!!

They opened up just right with OOTW and Want but then I was less then
satisfied with the set until the end with Hundred Years and Bloodflowers. This
crowd was so ADD, it was like they just couldn't watch the band. How many
freaking drinks do you need and for christ sake put away your damn cell
phone. I don't know if it was the crowd or the fact that Austin was so awesome
but I had a hard time getting into this one. They had great moments like
the intro, disintegration, and how beautiful you are, which Robert claimed
was just too sad a song after the finished it but the set just felt plain
overall. I will say a boy I never knew is heart wrenching because it comes
across as so tragic. Hundred years was great on two levels because it sounded
good (despite the technical difficulties Robert had at the start) and it
really seemed to piss off the annoying people around me as they obliviously
were here for only the pop songs. The visuals they played on the screens
in the background were really cool in the way it cycles through all
these terrible images of war. it just seemed to fit the song and my mood.
I also had a totally new take on Disintegration because of the images they
played of sonagrams of babies on the background screens, it
made me really think about the subject matter of the tune, between that
and boy I never knew, the themes of lost children was something new from
the Cure. A forest was nice because it was a throw back to the wish tour
with the extended version with extra lyrics, too bad I couldn't make out
the lyrics but it was good. The highlight though was when Robert asked if
anyone had been to the other Texas shows and everyone cheered, he then said
that Simon kept telling him the crowd would cheer for anything and that
it was pointless to ask. He then said "Simon thought you would cheer
if I told you I am going to take my driving test". Of course the crowd cheers
and Robert gets this classic look on his face and says "you weren't supposed
to cheer there" while Simon is looking at him like I told you so.
Given that I thought the Houston crowd sucked I couldn't help but laugh at
the whole thing.

well im finally home from the houston show and i dont know where to begin.
well actually i do. my seats were f'ing fabulous. sec b row 2. i had the
most amazing view of robert-dead center. when they came out, before he even
started to sing-i was in instant awe and couldnt stop staring bc he is so
amazing. then i had to stop and realize, oh yeah a song is starting-FREAKING
OUT OF THIS WORLD-no less. if this is even possible, i think it might be
the best show ive ever been to-i think?
the setlist was crazy. when WANT started i seriously almost peed my pants.
its been so many years since ive heard that. i dont even know what to say
about all of the craziness that appeared on that list last nite-so much
bloodflowers!! so many red songs. it was fucking crazy!!!!! i got lots of
pics and some video of ABINK. sometimes i was so into it i would have to
stop and ask myself-what is the name of this song?-very sad to do that, but
just fabulous. robert was so cute oh and for all of u PHT lovers out there
it was full force out there and he is fabulous!! i went to the austin show
also, which was amazing-SET WISE ONLY-but this one was soo much better-no
pushing drunk bastards, actual seats-fabulous seats-did i mention that already??
so yeah after the 2 shows in a row i woke up with no voice and my whole body
hurts but welll worth it. one other thing that i must mention-i was so loud
that it caught robert's attention-dotn remember which song, was too distracted
by that-so my fried joined in and he just watched us for a few seconds and
did a funny little smile and as he turned his head he did his little tounge
action move that is so fabulous-ok i just geeked out and feel like im 12-but
it cant be helped.
so to end this i will say
WHAT AN F'ING FABULOUS SHOW!!!

So sadly, Houston was my last show of this tour, so back to reality for
me. It was, as always, a kick ass show. After that show I had a better appreciation
for what they did by switching up the set lists substantially for each
of the three Texas shows which were venues all within a couple hours of
each other. Robert's comments during the show made this very apparent....so
review of the show. OOTW and BF are two absolutely great songs but I think
are 2 big casualties of being a four man band / keyboardless. Also another
huge casualty is Catch. I never could get past the missing keys on that
one on this tour. I thought it funny though that someone mentioned recently
that POY was a casuality of no keys. I thought quite the opposite. It sounded
good (probably b/c of the subtle backing tape) As with the shrine show OOTW
was missing a lot. Porl can only do so much at 1 time. I was hoping for
Underneath the Stars one more time. I was glad to get The Blood which was
fantastic as well as to finally hear A boy I never knew. Did not think I
was going to hear that one. It really is a great song. It was awesome to
see a Forest pick back up and go back up to full speed with added lyrics.
Something must have just got into Robert b/C it looked like simon wasn't
quite expecting it and Jason just kind of jumped back in. Awesome. I really
do miss the days of 15-20 minute versions of a forest with crazy solos. I
mean how cool would it be to end a main set going from 100 years into A
forest (in orange style) that went on for 20 minutes......
So to Austin. Reading my past review I would like to emphasize that 90-95%
of my disappointment was due to the venue sucking. My general nightly mixture
of alcohol and large amounts of mushrooms didn't bode well with that venue.
The two encores which were incredible, I had seen most nights so was really
hoping for the Faith block. And that fact it was only two encores left me
wanting....Oh so by the way I was thinking. Can you imagine if they opened
the main set with The Holy Hour and closed it with Faith. How cool would
that be.........
