Placebo's website claims
that they will be performing 2 songs at approximately
9:49 p.m. Central European time. They don't give any other
info, like when The Cure will be performing, or how long the Paris
event actually runs, but this does contradict the 4:30 - 7:30
bit."
For all you Mac users (and
anyone else), 'M' Live@Launch is up on the Audio/Video
page.
(Thanks Bill)

Live@Launch has posted
the link for the performance of 'M', though it
doesn't seem to be working at the time of this posting.
Update: The main
link STILL doesn't work, but if you search for Cure videos on Launch,
you will find it here.
(Thanks Terry)
I've put together a quick
Live 8 broadcast
page. If you have any info to add, especially for the countries that
aren't listed, please send
it in. Thanks!
Here's a look at the Versailles

A bit more info on the location
of the Greek show:
"Today on Fuse's "Daily Download", Billy
Corgan spoke about his new album. When asked about the track
"To Love Somebody", he said that he
got his good friend
Robert from The Cure to record the track with him.
Then a bunch of people in pink bellyshirts started to cheer...Ironic."
(Thanks Grace)
"Before U2's first Dublin gig last night
(Fridat 24th June) they played Inbetween Days about 3
songs before the band came on. Myself and a few
others gave an ironic
roar. The Cure in front of 80,000 people, sweet!!!"
(Thanks Ronan and Ian)
"A
junior shool in Switzerland has released a record
called "THE DOG ATE MY HOMEWORK" for helping Margaux (a girl
with a cancer). In the booklet feature this : "SPECIAL THANKS

THEIR MORAL SUPPORT!"

THING...
AFTER THAT IS DONE

Live 8 Coverage
Grows
June 24, 2005
After originally
announcing that their Live 8 coverage would be heard
on two channels, XM has expanded their coverage to a total
of nine channels. Channel 40 will be dedicated to overall
coverage of the event, with a seperate channel broadcasting
each entire concert from London (channel 41), Paris (channel
42), Berlin (channel 43), Rome (channel 44), Philadelphia
(channel 45) and Barrie, Canada (channel 46). This is all in
addition to the two previously announced channels, with the global
coverage on channel 200 and the London concert being simulcast
on channel 201.
Canadian radio
listeners who do not have their satellite radio yet
will be able to hear Live 8 coverage on the Sound Source
Network, a division of Standard Broadcasting. The
broadcast will begin at 1 p.m. EST and feature performances
from around the globe, with live updates from the Canadian
concert every half-hour.
Live 8 takes place
around the world on Saturday, July 2.
The Cure split is mentioned
in today's Hip Clicks
blog at USA Today.
(Thanks Jeff)
Though this has been posted
before, I've had 5 people ask me about it in
the last few weeks, so I'm posting it again. There
has obviously been a baby boom within the Cure community
recently. : )
"Some quotes
from an article on Billy Corgan's solo CD by Cameron
Adams appearing in The Advertiser, The Daily Telegraph
(Aus.), and Herald Sun (Aus.):
And it's his image
as grunge's guru of gloom he plays with on TheFutureEmbrace's
unlikely cover - the Bee Gees' To Love Somebody,
a duet with Robert Smith of the Cure, Corgan's mate: "We
are the most miserable men in rock. Isn't it perfect?"
And the influence
of Joy Division (and the Cure, and the Cocteau Twins
- all bands who mixed rock and electronics) is all over
his TheFutureEmbrace ... "I started from the mechanical
point of view of the bands I like - the Cure, Joy Division.
I'm not trying to sound like them. It's more that I worked
out what makes them tick. See, the Cure never sound wimpy, but
they're not a loud band like the Pumpkins were."
(Thanks Lenore)
"Prior to Billy Corgan taking the stage
(in Atlanta), there were two Cure songs played...in between
a few old Duran Duran songs and some others...the Cars
I think. 'Other Voices' followed by 'Splintered In Her Head'.
Billy was awesome."
(Thanks Patrick)
"In an article about reissues, there's
a paragraph talking about the Cure's first four in
San
Antonio Current."
(Thanks Lenore)
"I get this excellent newsletter every
week from www.b3ta.com
- and this week there was a competition to show famous people
with their look-a-like pets - scroll down to see one of
the entries: http://www.b3ta.com/board/4797629"
XM has announced
it will broadcast Live 8 performances from five of
the concerts around the globe, with XM personalities on site
broadcasting live. XM will broadcast from Philadelphia,
London, Rome, Paris and Berlin, beginning at 9 a.m. ET. The
coverage will be spread out across two channels, 200 and
201.
"Live 8 is that
rare, global event that unites under a common cause
an extraordinary line-up of talented musical artists
from diverse genres and we are honored to be the exclusive
satellite radio broadcaster for this event," said XM
EVP of Programming Eric Logan. "The millions of XM listeners
who won't be able to attend this historic musical event will
still have the opportunity to experience all of the excitement
and, of course, hear all that great music."
Meanwhile, New
York newspapers are reporting that MTV is negotiating
with Live 8 organizers over TV rights for the July
2 concert event, aimed at raising awareness of poverty in
Africa. AOL Music already has the rights to broadcast Live
8 around the world online.
MTV hopes to
air some of the performances from the concerts. As
for AOL, some performances will be seen live for free on the
Web at AOLmusic.com, with free
on-demand access to the shows for six weeks.
NEW YORK (AP)
- MTV and VH1 will telecast eight hours of the Live
8 concerts on July 2, the networks said Wednesday. The performances,
featuring artists U2, Coldplay, Madonna, Dave Matthews
Band, Jay-Z and Destiny's Child among many others, are being
held in eight cities to raise awareness of poverty in Africa.
The telecast
is a repeat performance for MTV, which showed the
Live Aid concerts two decades ago. Like Live Aid, the
Live 8 performances are being organized by Bob Geldof.
America Online,
which owns the U.S. rights to the concerts and will
beam them on the Internet, is also negotiating with ABC for
a prime-time telecast on July 2 following the cable TV
coverage.
MTV, VH1 and
MTV's college network mtvU will be on the air with
the same feed from noon to 8 p.m. EDT that day, switching
back and forth from different sites and also presenting
packaged reports, like a look back at Live Aid.
Related networks
CMT and VH1 Classic will air concert highlights
the next day featuring artists geared to their audiences.
It will be the
longest period MTV has gone live to cover an event
since Woodstock '99, the network said.
XM Satellite
Radio will carry the concerts live from Philadelphia,
London, Paris, Berlin and Rome, America Online also
announced on Wednesday. The Premiere Radio Networks will
also carry concert coverage and performances tailored to
three different radio formats - urban, rock and pop.
Internationally,
the MTV, VH1 and Music Factory networks will show
hourly bulletins about the show.
And The
Age has news of Live 8 broadcasts in Australia.
Curespotting:
"Billy Corgan is DJ'ing on Q101 &
playing "Charlotte Sometimes" right now. He introduced
it by saying this song is by a crazy guy with funny
hair over in
England. Who knew that one day there'd be thousands
of kids wearing funny hair and scary make-up, "all emulating
this soft-bellied man." Yes, he said that!"
(Thanks Lenore)
"I went to the
movies tonight to see a great new film from director
Jean-Marc Vallée called C.R.A.Z.Y. It's a movie
from Québec, thus in french, about a boy growing
up in the 60's, and dealing with his homosexuality, his relationship
with his family and espacially the love and acceptance of
his dad.
At age 20 in
the movie, while at his brother's wedding, after hearing
bad music all night with all the family dancing, the
main character waits for the dj to play the song he requested.
Then, finally, the song starts and It's 10:15 Saturday
Night. We hear It for a good minute and the kids are dancing to
It while the family vanish from the dance floor (not being
their cup of tea I guess).
Since It is
a french movie from Québec, It may never be
available elsewhere unless It is sold on independant foreign
circuits in USA and/or Europe. If you got a chance to
see It, It is a bitter-sweet movie, warm, funny, touching
that deals very well with the often complicated father and
son relationship.
Interestingly
enough, in the official site, The Cure doesn't appear
in the music credits... And I left the theatre before
seeing the actual generic of the movie. No soundtrack available
so far.
"Today they played Before 3 in my local
grocery store in Belfast's Botanic Avenue and also
at a very dodgy lap dancing club in Galway at a recent Bachelor
party a girl poledanced to Lullaby. Weirdly erotic!!!"

Billboard
and NME have stories
about Porl returning to The Cure.
An update on David Fargier's
book 'After The Rain...":
The Cure".
Projet à
l'état embryonnaire mais qui semblerait intéresser
quelques maisons de production. Egalement sur son plan
de travail la rédaction de
quelques
Some good
news for the tiny enterprise "After the rain" :
Of the 1500
copies of the French edition, only 250 are still available.
As the book will soon be released through out Virgin
Megastores and flyers distributed during this summer
gigs, these last copies will probably sold out soon. So
those who didn't get it yet, hurry up, guys !
David is
thinking about other projects : a visual documentary
(for TVs and/or a DVD) inspired by the "After the
rain... The Cure". Project in a
embryonary
state but that seems to inspire some production companies.
Also on his desk some texts to illustrate a picture book
about Björk.
Concerning
the book in its other languages, contacts advanced
for the Turkish and Greek versions. Good hope also for
the Spanish edition with
the help
of Hispacure, the official Spanish fan club. And big
issue : a contract have been signed for distributing the
English edition in North
America and
Europe at a price more than reasonable.
More information
on other languages release coming soon..."
(Thanks David)
Cure cover:
"OK Go's latest release is a 3-song
affair called Do What You Want. The other two songs are
"Invincible" and a cover of "The Lovecats" by The
Cure. To
Americans, a release like this is called an EP. More
sophisticated people know them as singles, which they
love to loudly play while wearing short pants, swilling
beer, and eating liver and monkey sandwiches. It's a small
world, ripe for the rocking. Do your part: you can buy this new
singlEP at the iTunes
Store, Amazon.com,
and a host of other places. You can also
listen to two of those songs, for free, on okgo.net
and our MySpace
page."
(Thanks James)
Curespotting:
"Robert is mentioned in an MSNBC article
about Billy Corgan's new release. Their
song together, 'To Love Somebody' got a rave review in
the article.

"not ususally one to report these but
CSI new york (or is it cold case? sunday night 8pm
pacific CBS)
anyway, there
was a scene of a mother and father in a bathroom,
getting ready to punish their young, blonde daoughter.
"lullaby" is playing, as the
mother and
father call their son in, and make him push his sisters'
face into a tub of water--so she almost drowns.
very wierd."
(Thanks Arusha)
is a website that makes fun (and rightfully
so) at all those motivational companies for suckers.
"It's a perfect day to throw back your head and kiss
it all goodbye" is one of their demotivational sayings which
is ironic to me since it's one of Bob's more motivational, upbeat
songs. So is "Giving up and going on are both the same dead
end."
(Thanks Sam)
June 18th
The summer shows just got A
LOT more interesting with the official site's announcement of Porl Thompson
returning to The Cure for these shows. Welcome
back Porl!
Ugh! So happy with that, then I actually
read the messages and find out that "THIS WILL BE A
GUITAR CURE" and "NO KEYBOARDS!". Well that's disappointing,
but still great to have Porl back for however long it
is. So they HAVE to open with 'Open' at Live 8, right?
: )
Here's an update (including
VIP ticket info) on the Live 8 show in Versailles,
France:
"On July 2nd, The Cure will play for
Live 8 in Versailles on the castle esplanade to an expected
audience of 200,000. The show will be free but 20,000
VIP passes will be available through an SMS competition.
To enter the competition, text 'Live' from a French mobile
phone to 73600 from June 20th on. The funds generated
from the text competition will go directly to funding the event
costs.
Initially,
it was supposed to be set in the Tuileries park in
Paris but was moved to Versailles to accommodate a larger
audience and to preserve the Tuilerie monuments.
Other international artists include James Brown, Shakira,
Muse and Placebo. French artists scheduled: Yannick
Noah, Pascal Obispo, Kool Shen, Kyo, Axelle Red, Youssou
N'Dour, Florent Pagny, Calogero, Raphaël, Cerrone and

The day
before, Cerrone will have his 'Cerrone Dance Party'
on the same premises. I'm attaching the map
of this event to give you an idea of the setup.

AFP Press Release:
Live 8:
James Brown, The Cure, Shakira et Placebo à
l'affiche à Versailles
PARIS,
17 juin 2005 (AFP) - James Brown, The Cure, Shakira,
Kyo, Axelle
Red, Youssou N'Dour, Florent Pagny, Calogero, Raphaël,
"This is without doubt the most bizarre
yet funny use of the Cure ever and I claim my £5.
First the
background info you need...
In Scotland
there is a comedy series called Chewing The Fat which
used the many talents of comedienne Karen Dunbar.
She now has her own show
and one
of the recurring characters is the appalling lounge
singers, Almost
Angelic.
Listen to
the whole clip and send your fivers to the usual address!!"
(Thanks to Hugh for the clip and to
Bruno for hosting it)
"Oi! Just a couple of minutes ago, watching
Channel 4, there was an advert for World's Biggest
Airliner and the music playing was the first
20 seconds
of 'M' off Seventeen Seconds. Sounded so good and
it was such a surprise."
(Thanks Honey Honey)
"Last night I was at the Better than
Ezra concert in Chicago. During the middle of their
last song, they brought in about 20-30 seconds of Fascination
Street. It was awesome."
(Thanks James)
"Last night I was watching 100 greatest
kid stars on VH1 and during the segment on Anthony
Michael Hall the played 2 small clips of Lovecats and
Just like
Heaven. It was quite nice to hear such great 80's sound
songs played with one of the coolest 80's stars."
(Thanks Wade)
June 16th
Stereogum removed their mp3
of 'To Love Somebody', but Billy has the
entire album up on his MySpace page.
