during those (sometimes) dark days during
growing up i started listening to roberts music and from the beginning on
i was fascinated about the
sound of their guitarrs. so i had the cure with me during the last 23
years and i saw several concerts during this time. besides the legendary
concert in strasbourg back in april 2000 (with 4 encores), yesterday
was my second concert were i sucked everything up - the way they comunicate
with each other, the individual style of guitar playing and i watched
them through a field-glass. the other concerts were more like beer and
dance parties!
yesterday was just great! the sound was very good, the setlist ok but
with no surprises. but what a fantastic porl thompson! although he was
fighting the whole evening with his schecter corsair guitar - his guitar
troubleshooter was also quite busy the whole 3 hours! but the way porl
played his part in never enough and wrong number - amazing!
the performance and the attitude of the rest of the band was great as
well: jason worked hard on his (partly to loud or dominating drums).
roberts voice was great - second song and a looooong prayers for raiiiiiiiiiiiiiin
(wow!). also his guitar parts were beautiful as ever!
and finally simon "le bass" - also very powerful and precise and what
a finish during a forest!
they play every second day a 3+ hours show with 35 or more songs and
they turne soon 50 years. and robert plays besides his fetish clothed
brother-in-law in front of sold out arenas around europe and later on
america - isn't that cool??

I have seen quite a few concerts in the
past 20 years, but I never had the impression, that the bandmembers were
enjoying themself that much like yesterday in Zurich. Having visited the
4tour concerts in Hamburg and Berlin before, i really could tell the difference,
in soundquality, funfactor and a Robert Smith who talked quite a lot to
the audience, which is totally unusual.
First I had some doubts about the Cure playing at the Hallenstadion,
because I thought that this place has become too big for them. But they
proved me wrong. I estimate the attendance between 8000 and 10000 people,
so the concert was well visited. I specially liked the crystalclear sound
on the Disintegration songs. The biggest surprise was Other Voices, which
really launched the concert and the dancy mood of the crowd. Followed by
a always sensational Push and later the traditional set, which seemed to
get louder and louder on every song and for the first time i liked Us or
them!
Robert even wanted to start with Somewhere over the rainbow, before
playing Friday I’m in Love and Simon maltreated the strings at the end
of the always fantastic A forest in a way, that you really could feel,
in what great mood the guys were yesterday. Unfortunately – and this is
again Switzerland – they had to play a very short third encore, because
they had to finish by eleven o’clock. Unbelievable and somehow very disappointing,
because I think we missed some few more songs on an amazing night like
this!
