The poll on chainofflowers.com has been a little hurtful, I thought fans
would be more genuine and take Robert's word in it all. I guess some of
the fans posting here are pretty similar... just put a little faith in
the band and believe in what they're doing :-)

    DONT WORRY ABOUT IT...
I GOT SENT IT JUST NOW AND IT MADE ME SMILE!
SO (ASSUMING THIS ISNT ONE MAN HITTING ALL THE BUTTONS... WHICH IS OF
COURSE A STRONG POSSIBILITY EH CONSPIRACY FANS?!!)

286 PEOPLE DONT SEEM TO NEED ANOTHER REASON BUT THE REASON - They need
time to finish the record (286) - CONGRATULATIONS!

179 PEOPLE THINK THE LABEL HAVE POWER(!!!) - Geffen wants the album
release & tour to coincide (179) (BTW OUR LABEL ISNT GEFFEN - ITS
SURETONE... AND THEY WILL SMILE TOO WHEN THEY SEE THIS!)

151 PEOPLE WENT FOR THE SNIDE ATYPICAL BRINGBACKROGER
ITWASALLSOMUCHBETTERINTHEOLDDAYS COF OPTION - Typical current Cure
    bullsh*t (151)

60 PEOPLE THINK THAT SELLING OUT VENUES ACROSS AMERICA IS WEAK - Ticket
    sales are weak (60)

AND YAY! 77 PEOPLE DONT THINK THEY CAN BREEZE THEIR WAY BACKSTAGE
BECAUSE DARYL ISNT THERE ANYMORE! - Disorganization. Bring back Daryl (77)

    ...AN EDIFYING POLL!
467 REAL (OR IMAGINARY?) PEOPLE KNOW THE REAL (OR IMAGINARY?)REASONS!

    HMMMM...

PERHAPS THE OTHER 250,000 FANS WHO ARE COMING TO OUR USA SHOWS ARE ALL
WRONG TO JUST TAKE ME AT MY WORD...

OR MAYBE THEY HAVE A TOUCH MORE SENSE AND PERSPECTIVE? OR MAYBE NOT
ENOUGH TIME TO CONTINUE WITH THIS NONSENSE?

    AND ON THAT NOTE
I HEAD BACK INTO THE STUDIO

you managed to read all the nice and positive posts as well as all the
    crap you've been continually addressing.

    YES
THANKS FOR ALL THE MORE REASONABLE STUFF

AS WE ARE NOW DOWN TO THE LAST FEW SPORADIC ANGRY NOTMUCHGOINGON POSTERS...

I FEEL I CAN LEAVE THIS FOR A WHILE (BUT NO... ONE LAST SIGH... I CAN'T
RESIST IT: TO THE DUH A FEW AGO... MY POINT WAS WHY WOULD WE ADD EXTRA
SHOWS IF WE AREN'T SELLING TICKETS? BUT I SUPPOSE THAT'S TOO TRICKY...
AAGH! TO BE BOTHERED WITH THIS IS SO DISMAL!)

    ANYWAY
I FEEL I HAVE EXPLAINED AS BEST I CAN
FINAL APOLOGIES TO THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN GENUINELY DISCOMFITED BY OUR
    POSTPONEMENT

ANYONE STILL LEFT WITH A BITTER POST IN THEM...
    POST AWAY

I AM OFF TO SING SOME SONGS

AND WILL BE BACK WITH NEWS OF OUR RESCHEDULED SHOWS

    LOVE

  • Curespotting:

  • "got the new issue of Spin magazine in the mail, the one with Rilo Kiley on the cover. On page 138 in the REVIEWS of NEW CD's there's a review for VHS or Beta's new cd, Bring on the Comets. They got a poor 1 and a half stars for it and the review is as follows.

"Hey guys, Curiosa was three years ago. Let's move on.

Kentucky's least country sons, now entirely removed from the Francophile disco of their first album (2002's pleasantly innocuous Le Funk), continue to mimic '80s new wave on their third. But without the strong vocals and volatile rock leanings that make the Killers and Interpol sound modern, Bring on the Comets is ultimately a bland regression. Percolating synthesizers bleed into the album's unrelenting mid-tempo beat, as Craig Pfunder mewls like Robert Smith, highbred Sloane-y accent and all. Even the mix is thinny, like a fuzzy trip through an unremarkable memory.

    Stacey Anderson"

    DON'T WORRY
WE WILL BE RE-SCHEDULING ALL THE 2007 USA/CANADIAN DATES

    ALL OF THEM

    IN FACT
AS THE SPRING 2008 ROUTING IS HAVING TO CHANGE DUE TO VENUE AVAILABILITIES IT IS VERY LIKELY WE WILL ACTUALLY ADD IN A COUPLE MORE SHOWS...

(AND WHERE WILL THAT LEAVE THE 'NO NO NO THEY CANCELLED THEY DIDNT POSTPONE AND THEY HAD TO DO IT BECAUSE THEY DIDNT SELL ANY TICKETS' BLOCKHEAD FACTION I WONDER?!!)

    LOVE

    PS

MOST LIKELY AT THE SAME TIME AS THE RE-SCHEDULED NORTH AMERICAN DATES ANNOUNCEMENT...

  • Here's the latest update from Robert:

  • LAST POST SOUNDING
    8/27/2007 6:46:51 PM - by CURE:ROBERT

    HERE WE GO AGAIN...
    Disappointed
    8/27/2007 4:05:09 PM - by gfaller
    I, too, am disappointed....

THAT MAKES A FEW OF US THEN!

I feel as if they are selling out...

WHY? BECAUSE WE POSTPONED SHOWS SO WE CAN FINISH THE NEW ALBUM?

I NEED US TO FINISH THE NEW ALBUM NOW, NOT IN A FEW MONTHS

I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE DONE BY NOW - THE DATES WERE BOOKED IN APRIL - AND I MADE A MISTAKE

    IT HAPPENS...

I HAVE APOLOGISED - A FEW TIMES NOW! - AND THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST ON THE SUBJECT

    TO BE CLEAR
    (AGAIN!)

ALL 2007 CONCERT TICKETS WILL BE HONOURED AT THE 2008 SHOWS WITH NO EXTRA COSTS

ALL 2007 CONCERT TICKETS WILL BE REFUNDABLE

WE FEEL FOR THOSE WHO PLANNED TO TRAVEL TO MORE THAN ONE SHOW AND MAY LOSE MONEY ON UNINSURED AIRLINE TX - BUT...PLEASE REMEMBER: ALTHOUGH UNFORTUNATE, THIS WAS ONLY ONE CONSIDERATION AMONG MANY

They are postponing their concert to sell new CD's.

HUH? WE ARE POSTPONING THE CONCERTS TO FINISH THE NEW ALBUM NOW BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND AND MORE ABOUT ALL THIS AND MORE...

I DONT BELIEVE FOR A SECOND WE WILL SELL MORE OR LESS CDS IF WE PLAY THE SHOWS NOW, CHRISTMAS, SPRING OR NEVER

IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT WITH US

While I would love to see them FINALLY do something new, I long to hear them perform their old stuff.

    GOOD
    ME TOO

I would think that most of their fans thrive on their old stuff because most of the teenagers have never even heard of The Cure.

UMMMMM... NOT SURE I AGREE WITH THIS BIT THOUGH!

    ANYWAY

The loyal fans want to hear the old tunes we grew up to and would still buy the new CD regardless of when it is released.

THE NEW TUNES CAN BE ENJOYABLE TOO...

    Is anyone else with me?

    SO
I AM KIND OF HALF WITH YOU?

BUT ALONG WITH A FEW OTHERS ON HERE I THINK YOU ARE MISUNDERSTANDING THE KEY POINT

WE MOVED THE DATES BECAUSE I AM DESPERATE TO FINSH A PROJECT THAT WAS STARTED IN MARCH 2006

IT IS DRAGGING OUT TOO LONG AND I KNOW IN MY HEART WE NEED TO FINISH IT NOW
    NOW
    NOT IN 2 MONTHS
    BUT
    NOW

    WHEN IT IS DONE
    WE WILL PLAY SHOWS

AND THERE WILL BE LOTS OF OLD SONGS
    (SOME VERY FAMILIAR
    SOME NOT SO FAMILIAR!)
AND LOTS OF NEW NEVER HEARD BEFORE SONGS...

WE WILL I HOPE PICK UP AT THE DOWNLOAD SHOW WHERE WE LEFT OFF IN NEW ZEALAND

    ON FIRE

AND BURN OUR WAY THROUGH THE MEXICAN SHOWS TOO

AND THE BITTERNESS I AM READING FROM A FEW 'FANS' ON HERE WILL BE LONG FORGOTTEN

    THERE!
    LOVE
    RSX

    PS
    OH NO...
    THIS!

    SIGH

Postponing a scheduled tour to finish an album that's been neglected for so long made no sense to me at all.

    IT HASNT BEEN NEGLECTED1
    IT HAS BEEN MADE
    IT NEEDS TO GET FINISHED
WE HAVE TAKEN LONGER TO GET IT RIGHT THAN I THOUGHT WE WOULD

    (AND ANYWAY
    REALLY
    INSIDE I THINK:
SO WHAT IF IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE TO YOU?!!)

It really pisses me off, and like someone else said, it seemed like a sell-out move. Disgusting.

HMMM... I MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING... AS I REALLY CANT GET MY HEAD AROUND THIS ONE...

SOMEHOW, WITH ALL THE 'SELL-OUT' OPTIONS I KNOW TO BE OUT THERE, 'POSTPONE YOUR AMERICAN TOUR AND CAUSE A LOT OF UPSET' DOESNT SEEM TO ME LIKE THE BEST ONE!

But, then I thought, WHY is the album important now? WHY REALLY? Why the need to suddenly drop everything and finish it? I suddenly feel very
worried that maybe there is something more, something looming, some reason why Robert wants the record done with no further delay, even at the "cost" of pissing off loads of fans....

    YES THERE IS A REASON

I NEED US TO FINISH IT NOW...

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND THIS?

AND WHY CANT THIS REASON BE ENOUGH FOR YOU?

(RESCHEDULING SOME OF THE DATES IS PROVING TRICKY BECAUSE OF THE
'PLAYOFFS' THAT HAPPEN IN A LOT OF THESE AMERICAN/CANADIAN VENUES IN
    SPRING...

    BUT WE ARE GETTING THERE)

    X...

    (Thanks Martin)

  • (another casualty of the postponement - less tour talk, more...) Curespotting:

  • "I saw the king of kong: a fistful of quarters last night and within the film they play a good minute or two of Pictures of You by the Cure. just thought you might want to put that in as a curespotting. oh and the movie is REALLY GOOD."

"The show "Scott Baio is 45 and Single" on VH1 has been playing alot of Cure songs, seems like one per episode. I've heard Hot! Hot! Hot!, Just
Like Heaven, Boys Don't Cry, and Friday I'm in Love. The show's soundtrack also plays alot of other similar genre music like New Order, Depeche Mode, etc...just to name a few. Who knows, maybe Chachi is a closet Cure fan!"

  • Robert reacted last night to the fan conspiracy theories about the tour postponement:

  • HMMMMMM
    8/24/2007 7:42:01 PM - by CURE:ROBERT

I STAYED AWAY FROM THE FIRST 500...

BUT GET A FEEL THERE ARE SOME UNHAPPY ONES
    (PLUS CA CHANGE?!!)

did Geffen make the push, and if so, Robert really can't say..because they are under contract.

    NO
WE AS A GROUP MADE THE DECISION
    THERE IS NO BACK STORY
    NO ULTERIOR THING
WE WANT TO FINISH THE RECORD
    ITS THAT SIMPLE

WE MADE A MISTAKE IN BOOKING THE DATES FOR SEPTEMBER I THINK
IT PUT US IN A 'FINISH IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN... WHATEVER' POSITION
AND IT MEANS TOO MUCH TO US TO DO THIS

    IT HAS TO BE RIGHT

    Was it poor sales?

WE HAVE ALREADY SOLD MORE THAN OUR GUARANTEES
SOLD OUT AND CLOSE TO SOLD OUT ACROSS THE BOARD

    REALLY...
THERE IS NO 'IT MUST BE SALES!' BACK STORY

And what will they do between the CA festival show and the Mexico dates? Fly home for a week? Or do promo stuff?

FLY HOME AND MIX THE FINAL SONGS I HOPE!

WE REALLY DO FEEL BAD ABOUT PUTTING EVERYONE OUT LIKE THIS

    BUT...
    WE HAD TO DO IT

THE SHOWS IN SPRING 2008 REALLY WILL BE THE BEST CURE SHOWS

AND THIS ALBUM WILL BE THE BEST CURE ALBUM

    THIS IS WHAT WE DO

    SO

    DONT GET TOO UPSET

I WILL DROP A NEW SONG IN HERE IN A FEW DAYS

AS A KIND OF PEACE STONE IN THE WATER?

    LOVE
    RSX

So there you have it. Robert was not on the grassy knoll, Simon did not plant C4 in tower 2 and Porl & Jason were nowhere near Roswell.

    (Thanks Juergen)

  • And the other shoe finally drops - The Cure have postponed their US/Canadian fall tour:

  • PRESS RELEASE 24/8/07

North American Fall 2007 Cure shows re-scheduled for Spring 2008

With all apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment it may cause, we have made a decision to move the September/October 2007 North American Cure shows to April/May 2008.

The schedule as it stands only gives us a couple of weeks to finish our new double album before we hit the road again, and we know this just isn’t
enough time to complete the project to our total satisfaction.

Although this last month’s tour of Australasia showed that a great Cure show is not dependent on a new Cure album, it has to be remembered that we hadn’t played Australia for 7 years, New Zealand for 15 years, Japan for 23 years(!), and Singapore or Hong Kong ever before – so the absence of ‘new’ songs in the set was not really much of an issue.

However, we want to remodel/rework the live show for North America, change things around, incorporate new songs… and we need time and focus to do this.

So although we can agree it is a great shame to move these dates – believe us we have been looking forward to them more than anyone! – and know there will be a lot of disappointed people out there, we honestly feel that in the bigger picture we are making the right decision.

All tickets held for all 2007 North American Cure shows will be valid for the re-scheduled 2008 shows, and of course anyone who seeks a refund will be able to get one.

All validity/refund/rescheduling details will be announced as soon as we have them.

We are still going to headline the San Francisco Download Festival October 6th, and we will still be performing at the MTV Latin America Awards October 18th.

We will also play the three scheduled Sports Palace Mexico City shows October 20th/21st/22nd, as by this point we feel sure we will have finished
the new album, and will be more than happy to start dropping a fresh song or three into the set each night…

Once again, our genuine apologies to anyone who is upset by this announcement - please be encouraged by our promise:

The Spring 2008 Cure shows will be even better than the Fall 2007 ones would have been!!!

    See you all soon…

    Love

Robert, Simon, Jason and Porl – The Cure 24/8/07

(Thanks to everyone who wrote in)

  • A quick plug before you leave - 'Under The Blacklight' by Rilo Kiley was released yesterday. Wasn't happy with it on the first spin, love it now. A bit different from their old stuff, but it grows on you very quickly. So grab a copy and give it a chance. Then get your tickets for the tour. RK in N.O. on Oct. 4th, thank you Jenny!

    "NPR.org, August 17, 2007

Hey, Shout Out Louds: The Cure's Robert Smith called, and he wants his song back. He's not mad because the Swedish band is biting his style on "Tonight I Have to Leave It," but because his own group hasn't written a tune this simple, direct and catchy in many a mascara-ed moon.

The first single from Shout Out Louds' forthcoming Our Ill Wills, the love-is-lost song opens like an homage to The Cure's "In Between Days," with rolling toms and acoustic-guitar strums alternating between two chords. It then adds keyboard melodies using presets that seem lifted from The Head on the Door, but it's not until singer-songwriter Adam Olenius opens his mouth that the Cure connection becomes electric.

Robert Smith owns one of the most distinctive voices in popular music, and few singers come close to his careening wail. Olenius' style doesn't feel quite so loose or wild, but they share an eerily similar timbre. The association wasn't as overt on Shout Out Louds' first CD, the rambunctious indie-popper Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, but Olenius now seems a more demonstrative and confident singer. That he happens to sound like one of rock's most iconic artists is no slam against Shout Out Louds' own, unfussy brilliance."

    (Thanks Craig)

"Just wanted to drop a line to state that Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs on The Discovery Channel has listed The Cure as his number one band on his
IPOD.  Check it out at Discovery.com  Awesome!"

"little curespotting on french tv channel France 5, in the program 'Question Maison' (about architecture and stuff), the first part of the program was about polycarbons, a new material which is used more and more about arcitect to replace glass, and a long part of 'a forest (tree mix)' was used as background music."

  • Album delay confirmed by Robert and other backstage news from Alastair (from his Melbourne review):

  • "Once the show was over I felt my excitement reach a crescendo...time to meet Robert backstage. The Producer of the segment had only just let me
know I was conducting the only Australasian TV interview, equal parts AAAAAiiiiieeeee and Arrrgh.

A niece and nephew of Robert filmed the interview which made me feel twice as nervous, but by the time he walked in, that feeling vanished, I
was too stunned to believe it was happening. Let me say this, he didnt disappoint me in anyway, you kind of expect that there is a chance that when you meet the person(s) you have been in awe of for years that you may find them to be difficult or disinterested? Not the case at all.

Robert was very generous with his time, he must have been exhausted, he said the band was very cold on stage and it was a struggle to play at
times as they had claw hands, I remember seeing Porl blowing on his hands at one stage and looking unhappy.

Robert said that the band had not had the best show, as they felt the crowd wasnt that into it and it felt like a battle of the wills.  I asked him some questions about the new album and he confirmed he had the mixes with him (I wanted to say please play them, dream on) and that the album would not be out this year, he said in the scheme of things once its out people wont remember the waiting, they will only remember if they liked the album or if they hated it.....a fair point! He said they will be playing new material on the US dates (lucky beggars) and that there just isnt enough time to get the album done and do it justice between the end of the Australasian dates and the US ones.

Porl told me that he had done three different versions of the album cover so far and he had no idea which one would be used, he did say that the inside booklet was all but finished. Porl also said there are instrumentals on the album. But this could of course change, he suggested the number of tracks on the album could increase!

Gah! Sorry this is so long. Anyway I asked about the re-issues and he said a few things were done, Disintegration is all ready to go, he is still working on Wish and confirmed my suspicions about something that will be on it....but he swore me to secrecy! He talked about the anniversary DVD that is coming out and that he prefers this format to writing a book, he said that all the books written about the band are all 'wide of the mark' and made a funny face!

He said there is no plans to ever bring keyboards back in, but who knows perhaps they will have one onstage in the US and if any of the band feel
like embarrassing themselves then maybe it will get a bashing! and he said the ever delayed solo album will one day see the light, but then kind of laughed and made a very funny smile and poked his tongue out! He said if the band are touring again in the next couple of years they would definitely be heading back to the region! fingers crossed!

    (Thanks Alastair)

  • Robert's trousers:

  • "In their reviews people have been saying that Robert is wearing a skirt on stage. He is not actually wearing a skirt but the good old bondage trousers. The trousers have a flap in front and in the back. I think they were originally designed by Vivienne Westwood in the late 70's and copied since by many manufacturers, most notably Tiger of London. You can see a picture of them here http://www.redhaze.com/acatalog/CCF108.jpg
Robert seems to be wearing them without the strap.

Just thought that maybe people would like to know."

  • Very sad news tonight/this morning, the legendary Tony Wilson has died.

  • Looks like the delay of the new album is true. More media outlets are now reporting it - Billboard, E! Online, FMQB and this on Much Music:

  • "Just saw on Much Music, Canada's lame music channel, a segment called "The Loop", and it said they had just received confirmation from The Cure's label, and the new album is definately delayed until April/May 2008."

    (Thanks Nando and Paivi)

  • The Oct. 20th and 21st shows in Mexico City are pretty much sold out:

  • "Just letting you know that yesterday at eleven o'clock there was the pre-sale on the cure tickets for Banamex cardholders and it was like hell: in no more than two hours all available tickets sold out. Immediatly the second date (21st October) was opened for sale and it took just the rest of the day to sell out.

Despite our efforts, in Mexicure not everybody got fine tickets, but we managed to make the right shifts and noone in our forum is left out now. Brokers are not welcome in our forum.

Now we are expecting the third date to be opened anytime now, this time to everybody, not just Banamex cardholders.

Nevertheless it is likely that there will be some tickets available for the first two shows due to credit card rejections and -this is important- because looking at the map of the venue you can see there are seats for sale that are actually BEHIND the stage. I doubt those were on sale for the pre-sale, but anyone looking for seats from now on should be aware of this situation (specially because those seats are not cheaper than the ones that face the stage).

All info is as always in thecure.com.mx

    Good luck to you all!"

    Update: "
The first date is definitely sold out. Some tickets for the second date are expected to be released through the weekend, so curefans left behind should keep on looking for the Ticketmaster website. And beware of the seats behind the stage! Here's a link to the seating chart."

    (Thanks Miss Matrix)

"I've just checked Ticketmaster's website and it seems that there are no more tickets for either concert. It still seems to be open for "Row Zero", the special promotion area ("inside the stage" as their propaganda goes) for users of the Infinitum internet provider, which seems to be the only good thing about Infinitum's services."

  • Gavin just posted this on the MySpace Secret Show website:

  • "Thank you MySpace for putting this on, and thank you so much to The Cure who played a unique set list which made it truly something else.

Okay there was lot of improvising, but this is what live music is all about. They chose a set list that they could not normaly play in front of a paying bigger audience and yeah that made it unique and just so good. Whoever's idea was to choose such a set list is a genius.

The set list was 6 songs and included Letter to Elise, Maybe Someday, Disintegration.

Robert made some lucky girls night, by handing her the set list at the end of the night."

Update: Setlist confirmed - Plainsong, Letter To Elise, How Beautiful You Are, Maybe Someday, Signal 2 Noise, Disintegration, Just Like Heaven

    (Thanks Gavin, Shaun and Michael)

  • Yahoo News/Reuters is reporting the album delay too:

  • The Cure record postponed again

    By Gelu Sulugiuc
Thu Aug 9, 9:44 PM ET

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - The Cure's 14th studio record has been postponed for a second time and will not hit stores until next spring, the band's record company said on Thursday.

"The album got pushed to 2008, more like an April/May release. Robert is still recording," a Geffen Records spokeswoman said from New York, referring to the band's frontman Robert Smith.

Smith told Reuters in an interview late last year that he was struggling to come up with lyrics to some of the 33 new songs he and the band had recorded.

The new album was originally slated to be released in May this year, then was postponed until October.

Smith said last month he wanted to release two versions of the album -- a limited edition double-record mixed by him and a single CD mixed by another producer.

The Cure is currently on tour in Australia and will be playing U.S. dates in September and October.

The story is also up at the Vancouver Sun and antiMusic.

  • New Cure album delayed until Spring 2008? That's what Stereo Warning is reporting:

  • August 09, 2007
    The Cure album postponed again

The new The Cure album has been postponed again, this time till next spring, in April or May, the record company says. Robert Smith is still recording.

It's the second time the release is postponed. First the album was supposed to come out in May, then it was pushed till October. Tantalizingly, Robert Smith is promising a double-album, mixed by none other than himself. Worth the wait, we say!

I'm not familiar with this website and don't know if they are usually credible, but I don't think another delay would really surprise anyone.

    (Thanks Jon)

  • Ticketmaster is now selling tickets for the second Mexico City show on Oct. 21st.

  • (Thanks Leonardo)

  • Just a reminder that the pre-sale for the first Mexico City show is today. I'm told it is only for Banamex credit card holders for the next 2 days, though Ticketmaster says the pre-sale ends tonight. There's also a password box, but I've been told there's no password. The regular sale starts on Saturday, I think. If anyone wants to help clarify things, I would appreciate the help.

  • Update: "Ticketmaster Mexico didn't ask for passwords (at least for tickets bought from Mexico). Indeed, the pre-sale is only for Banamex card holders, so many have been desperately seeking friends or relatives willing to lend them their Banamex card to buy the tickets. General public sale should start Saturday, but, although things are not going out as maniacally fast as three years ago, there aren't likely to be any (or any good) tickets left on Saturday. There's still tickets on the last and second-to-last sections of El Palacio, but the acoustics on that part of the venue are legendary dreadful."

Update: "Indeed, the presale for both dates ends tonight, at 23:00, not tomorrow as was previously informed. Those looking for single tickets for the 20th are still likely to get even section B tickets."

    (Thanks Leonardo)
