  • Curespotting:
  •
"Interesting experiment they did here...took a world-famous violinist with a multi-million dollar violin and had him play near a subway stop in Washington D.C. Would anyone notice him?
     http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040401721.html

One gentleman never heard him, had his ipod on, listening to The Cure
"The song that Calvin Myint was listening to was "Just Like Heaven," by the British rock band The Cure. It's a terrific song, actually. The meaning is a little opaque, and the Web is filled with earnest efforts to deconstruct it. Many are far-fetched, but some are right on point: It's about a tragic emotional disconnect. A man has found the woman of his dreams but can't express the depth of his feeling for her until she's gone. It's about failing to see the beauty of what's plainly in front of your eyes."

(Thanks Kev, Barbara, Steve and Kate)

"On Friday's The Soup, Joel McHale referenced the purported collaboration of Robert Smith and Ashlee Simpson.  He remarked that it gave Goth kids something to be depressed about."

    (Thanks Barbara and Mike)

"Boys Don't Cry is played over and over on Danish TV2 as it's their theme-song for a new sports channel TV2 Sport:

    (Thanks Søren)

"Just a little curespotting from french local tv Tele Grenoble.  On today's program 'Pur (bien) Etre', which is about discovering people and their link with nature, and today was about a farmer producing apples and so living in the spring surrounded by flowers from the trees, was used the full intro of lullaby during the beginning of the report..."

    (Thanks Fabien G)

"little curespotting here in France, on France2 tv channel tonight, there was a french comedy tv movie titled 'Le Ciel sur la Tete' about a couple in their 60's, happy in their lives, happy to find out that their 40 years old son has finally found love, but they  also realize that... it's a man. How will they cope wih discovering after all these years that their son is gay and never realized it? A comedy, nothing special about it, except that the guy's bedroom in his parents' house has record sleeves pinned on the walls, like Culture Club, David Bowie, and 'in between days' 12"."

    (Thanks Fabien G)

"Mick Est Tout Seul (lead-singer of popular French band Mickey 3D who kindly write the rear-cover of my book "After The Rain... The Cure" and
who has just released a solo album) in April issue of Start Up, a free magazine available in indie music shops : "A few years ago, I met Robert Smith. When I told him it was because of listening to his band that I felt like making music, he hold me in his arms."

I think it was for the RTL2 concert in L'Olympia in Paris where The Cure, Placebo, Mickey 3D, Raphaël, Etienne Daho and Calogero played accoustic sets. Mickaël FURNON offered a football t-shirt of Saint-Etienne (where he's from and live) to Robert : I know there's a picture of that but can't manage to find it."

    (Thanks David)

  • Another Cure mash-up - Lily Allen vs. The Cure:

  • "I thought that you might enjoy the mash up of Lily Allen's "Smile" with The Cure's "Lullaby."  They don't use Robert Smith's voice, but the music and videos look great together! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y66NmjvLtss"

    (Thanks Matt)

  • The Press of Atlantic City reviews the remastered 'Kiss Me' cd.

  • (Thanks Tempest)

  • New Cure book:

  • "Pascal Milette (who already worked on "After the rain... The Cure" now released in French, German and English), Jean-Christophe Bétrisey and
myself will release a new Cure book called "100 Songs : The Dark Side Of The Mood?". We translated 100 lyrics written by Robert Smith for The
Cure and The Glove into French, and manage to find unseen pictures of Robert. The back cover has been kindly written by talented French singer
    Dominique A."

    (Thanks David)

  • Update on the New Zealand Cure petition:

  • "As you are probably aware, an online petition was started last week in an effort to bring the Cure to New Zealand for the first time in 15 years. The online petition is going well, and today most of the music stores New Zealand wide will be receiving in store copies to add to their counters for walk in customers. The petition therefore is now being displayed in around 60 stores nationwide.
Alastair and I are going all out for Rob and the boys!!!"

    (Thanks Gordan)

  • Cure party in Gent, Belgium:

  • "this week I saw a poster for a Cureparty in Gent, Belgium. The party is at Cafe 't Genoegen at the Overpoort in Gent, and is on Friday 20th of  April. The poster shows the front of the Bloodflowers-cd, and the evening has apparently been called Friday I'm in Love."

    (Thanks Simon)

  • Cure cover:

  • "The Belgium girl choral Scala put a refreshing cover of "Friday I'm In Love" in their last album."

    (Thanks David)

  • Curespotting:

  • "In the personality magazine (as they call it) Park Avenue, April '07 edition, Robert Smith made the list of 100 important style icons.  This magazine is high-gloss and comes in German and Italian languages.  It seems to cover a lot of European royalty and celebs that aren't well known in America.

This is how the article starts ...

It goes something like this ...

    The 100
The are those people who one can't miss.  The have this special Something.  This flair, this elegance, this charisma and that deciding pinch of boldness, in short, style.  We have sought out our one hundred favorites from the last 100 years.  This is naturally strongly subjective and not claiming to be complete.  Open the curtain for:  The Park Avenue Style-Icons.

    Scarlett Johansson is #1
    Audrey Hepburn is #4
    Johnny Cash #8
    David Bowie #58
    and ...

    Robert Smith #94
Lieblingslippenstiftfarbe: Jane Cosmetics, Nr.3 "Reddest".

A nighmare in black, a depression.  The Cure-man has always claimed that he learned from the punk lady Siouxsie Sioux.  He said he got it from his mother.  Favorite lipstick color:  Jane Cosmetics, No3 "Reddest". "

    (Thanks CrystalS)

    "billboard in berlin:

"Was haben Kylie Minogue und The Cure gemeinsam? Das neue Album von Scala"

(What have K.M. and The Cure in common? The new album of Scala)

I highly disapprove, but spotted nevertheless."

    (Thanks Yvonne)

    April 3rd

  • A week later and now everyone seems to have picked up the RS/Ashlee Simpson story - NME, VH1's Best Week Ever, FMQB, AntiMusic, Yahoo, Whiskey Soda, All Headline News, New Zealand Herald, The Guardian, Moldova, Tonight. KROQ is reporting it too, though just repeating the NME story (which is just repeating the original Entertainment Weekly story).

  • Update - RS says he didn't do it. So did Joe Simpson lie? Was he misquoted? Or can it all be blamed on acid reflux...again. The real question is whether EW, NME, etc. will retract or correct their stories?

(Thanks Toni, Steven, J.C., Fab. G, Bernie, Jeff, Shannon and Christina)

  • 3 things about the RS/Ashlee thing - First, it is NOT an April Fool's joke. I posted the original EW story back on March 23rd (scroll down and read it). Second, none of these new articles confirm it, they are just repeating info from the EW story. Third, if it is true, why are so many of you "surprised", "disgusted", "saddened", etc. ? Have you been paying attention over the last 3 or 4 years?

  • Along those lines, Filter has posted an Open Letter To Robert Smith

  • (Thanks Torr)
