Paranormality Universe
Starting in the late 1980s, George R. R. Martin edited a series of shared-world anthologies that asked the question: What would super-powered people be like in the real world? The books were gritty, fun, and very, very cool. They included such writers as Roger Zelazny, Walter Jon Williams, Melinda Snodgrass, and others.
I was a huge fan of Wild Cards. (You probably couldn't guess that from the photo of me dressed up as Peregrine, could you?) I still am. I've read about 2/3 of the new book, and it rocks.
