CALLING ALL EUROPEANS
Did you know the Citizens of the European Union have their own Tartan

The tartan was designed by William Chalmers, in the old historical town of Kilsyth in Scotland. The cloth is an authentic Scottish Tartan for all Europeans, registered by the Scottish Tartan Society, the United Kingdom Patent Office, the President of the European Union and the Commissioners in Brussels. Comments by the President of the Commisson,
” Your idea of a tartan in the European colours is certainly a very original way of promoting the interrogation and unity of EU citizens even further ,“. The Tartan Squares are worked round the twelve stars on the European Union Flag, designed by Mr Paul Levy, the Council of Europe’s Director of information in the early 1950s. The tartan is made up of the colours on the flag of the European Union, running through the tartan is a small red line, this commemorates the blood spilt on our Continent since recorded history, the white line is slightly larger and represents peace on the Continent of Europe and the world.

Bill Chalmers has also designed a complete uniform to be worn with the European Union Tartan, all of which is relevant to Europe. Blue jacket, waistcoat, shirt, waist belt buckle, sporran chain, sporran, hoses, garter flashes, shoes. On the left hand sleeve of the jacket a small velcro patch shows the fifteen stars that represent the countries in the European Union, leaving ample space to incorporate further enlargment sometime in the first decade of the year 2000. Those items are available on special request from the designer at Tel: 01236 822299, or   International 44-00-01236 822299, or Email: CChalmers@compuserve.com . ABOUT US EUROPEANS

Europe is one of the smallest Continents on earth, its
contribution to the advancement of civilisation is second
to none. Her sons and daughters have settled all over the
world, in particular the United States of America. In the
beginning the tribes of our European continent colonised
the land, from which was born some of the greatest empires
seen on earth. But it was our ancient Greek ancesters, in
particular the poet Homer, it was he who gave us our first
stumbling words into verbal communication which helped to
stabilise the world's culture as we know it today. Like all
large families we have had our black sheep? But we have also
had some fine sons and daughters, one in particular was
the Emperor Constantine, whose logistical circumstances
saw him incorporate Christianity in an effort to strengthen
his grip on the expanding Roman Empire. Then came the
sprawling modern day empires of France and Great Britain.
But all too soon in our continent of great talent and vibrant
aspirations, its young men and women were to die in some of
Europe's darkest moments. Battles like the Somme and Dunkirk
had devastating effects on the family of Europe, but from the
ashes of political tragedy a forward looking group of Euro-
peans, saw their dream of European unity realised in 1957.
The birth of the (EEC), The European Economic Community. Its
aim was to abolish tariffs and all other restrictions on
trade within the member states. Since then it has grown in
number and at this particular moment in time, less than
seventy days to the year 2000, membership has risen to 15
countries with many more seeking entry. On Europe's western
boundary lies the British Isles, in its most northern part
is the small nation of Scotland where the tribal ancesters
of European descendants, the Picts and Scots, denied the
might of the Roman Empire. To commemorate European unity
as we approach the Third Millenium, we the Scots offer in
a gesture of brotherhood and further integration, the
European Union Tartan. Finally, "There is so much diverse
culture and talent in the European Union, together we can
help shape the world's people to a greater understanding
of humanity".
