This book is intended to be a concise and scientifically credible critique of the naturalist's theory of origins. Its purpose is to expose the educated layman to the weaknesses and faith assumptions in the theories of cosmological, chemical, and biological evolution.
Leading scientists are quoted extensively because the thesis of the book is that the naturalistic explanation of existence is SCIENTIFICALLY untenable. Each step in this explanation, from the origin of the cosmos to evolution of mankind, is fraught with such difficulties that one wonders why it is believed, let alone dogmatically promoted. As a number of scientists have pointed out, the reasons are philosophical rather than scientific.
Those committed to a strictly materialistic view of reality are by definition closed to the influence of a supernatural being. Their philosophy demands that EVERYTHING be explained, however implausibly, in terms of purely natural, mechanical processes. When Oxford zoologist Richard Dawkins wrote that "Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist," he exposed his own philosophical bias and that of many of his colleagues.
This bias accounts for much of the hostility exhibited toward scientists who favor divine creation. The disagreement about origins lacks the usual scientific detachment, not because one side is waging a noble fight for "true science," but because it is a clash between theistic and atheistic world views. To dispute the concept of natural origins is to challenge the atheist's creed and thus to nudge him toward a religious crisis.
How do those who deny the influence of a supernatural Creator claim that the universe, including the earth and its multitude of life forms, came into being? They say that everything "evolved" into existence, but that is not an explanation. It is simply another way of saying that everything arose through a process of natural transformation. It does not describe HOW natural processes produced the cosmos (galaxies, stars, and planets) and the abundance of life we see on earth.
When one examines the particulars of this alleged evolution, it quickly becomes apparent that the theory is far weaker than we and our children have been led to believe. Indeed, it is the creation myth of modern western society.
