In the twilight of his career, Tony signed for Nuneaton Borough in the Southern League.
He scored over 50 goals in one season and featured in the club's finest hour and a half.
The following report is taken from the January 1998 edition of FourFourTwo magazine, where
this particular match was rated 27th in the feature "The 50 Greatest FA Cup Upsets Ever!".
"The Cutler did it. Paul Cutler. the Nuneaton Borough forward whose haircut betrayed the fact
that he suffered from the delusion that he was George Best, had a second-minute scrambled goal
disallowed. But 20 minutes later, his damn fine cross was met by Tommy Crawley, whose glancing
header slid into the net. Swans' irresolute defenders were reduced to a state of gibbering terror
and after 41 minutes George Heyes could only stand and stare as a 20-yard shot from Tony Richards
rebounded off his post.
Swansea, with Welsh international Ivor Allchurch upfront, staged a minor rally in the second half
but soon Borough, backed by 15,000 baying fans, had the Third Division side penned in their own
penalty area. After 65 minutes Town's Denis Coughlin tried to ease the pressure on his boys by
heading back to the keeper. But Heyes dropped the ball and let it slither through his legs and
over the line. Twenty-seven years later, Boro and Swansea met again. To similar effect".
