From the collection of John Gillies come these pictures of his
late father Flt.Lt. Ken Gillies of 66(F) Squadron RAF, undergoing training
at RAF Montrose in 1936. Flt.Lt. Gillies went on to fly Gauntlets at Duxford
and took part in the Hendon displays. He was one of the first squadron
pilots to evaluate the new Spitfire, and in April 1940 the squadron transferred
to Coltishall. From there they moved first to Kenley and then Gravesend.
Flt.Lt. Gillies was killed in action on October 4 1940.
