The Internet Publishing Forum Webring
HTML code for the Webring
Please read the following instructions carefully.
You will need to insert some code in your page to show your membership of the ring, and to enable people following the ring to navigate round it. The page should be your home page, or a special page dedicated to webrings. If it is not on the home page, an easily-seen link to the page it is on must be placed on your home page.
You have three choices of design, and each has the code shown below it, so that you can copy and paste it into your Web page. Click within the text area and right-click (Macs - click and hold) then choose 'Select All'. Right-click again and choose 'Copy'. Alternatively, you can save this page to your hard disk and decide later which one you want to use. Remember this is the source code, and will not work if you copy/paste it directly into a WYSIWYG editor. If necessary, open your page in a text editor like NotePad or SimpleText. In particular, if you use HPWiz, don't open it again in HPWiz before publishing or you will lose your changes! Inserting the code is like inserting a counter on your page, so if you are unsure how to go about it I suggest you download the file COUNTER.TXT from the forum library.
Important
You will have been advised of your site ID when you completed the application to join the ring, and will also be advised of it by email; you must go through the code and replace all instances of '_SITE_ID_HERE_' with your actual ID. Similarly, the first two examples have 'mailto:SITE_OWNER_EMAIL' and 'Your_Name_Here' in the code. You should replace these with your email address and name respectively.
You will also need to save the ring's logo to your hard disk, and upload it to your server with your page. Remember to change the path in the code if you upload it to a different directory to the HTML file! To save it, right-click (Windows) or click and hold (Mac), and choose Save Picture As... or similar.

One thing you need to remember about JavaScript code. It needs to be in a specific format. In particular, unlike HTML, line breaks in the wrong place will spoil things. It is like lines of program code. Get it out of line or sequence and you will get JavaScript errors when you try to load the page. The best way to keep this from happening is to turn "word wrap" off in your editor.
