News This page is dedicated to keeping our readers up to date with all the latest new from Sefton Park Juniors. As you are probably aware the fitting of the new computers in school has been somewhat delayed for reasons beyond our control. However, this has enabled us time to further develop the TAP database mentioned elsewhere on these pages. The database proved invaluable during the inspection week and met with the enthusiastic approval of the inspection team. We are continuing with our efforts on this database tool and will keep you informed of our progress.
As promised, here is a brief summary of our recent OFSTED inspection. To download a copy of the full report (97Kb), click here. (please be aware the download takes some time and Adobe Acrobat software is required to read the document. You can click here to obtain a free copy of the software.) We are happy to say that overall our OFSTED report can only be seen as very positive. In fact, the opening comment on the first page of the inspection report is: "Sefton Park Junior School is a successful school with several strengths and very few areas of weakness." Design and Technology, Art and R.E. were highlighted as particular strengths of the school, as were the caring social attitudes shown by children, parents and teachers. The school governors came in for some special praise when the report states: "Governors are knowledgeable, supportive and take their role very seriously. They are well organised, informed and make a significant contribution to school life." The report also states that: "The school is well managed and led. The headteacher, senior managers and governors share a very clear sense of direction and purpose. There is a good strong ethos which places appropriate emphasis upon both academic and personal development." The team attended many of the school clubs and acknowledged that: "An excellent feature of the curriculum is the range and number of extra-curricular activities on offer. These cover areas such as sport, arts, music and a Junior Amnesty International group. All these activities are appreciated and enjoyed by a significant number of children." Unfortunately our unfinished information technology suite did not go unnoticed and, in this area, we came in for some criticism. Parents of children at Sefton Park can only congratulate themselves and their children for the following comments made by the inspector: "Children have good attitudes to lessons. They work hard and maintain good levels of concentration. The majority of children are interested in what they do and are eager to participate in activities. They work well together and co-operate effectively. A noticeable strength is the way in which children respect the feelings and beliefs of others. The majority of pupils are very comfortable with, and interested in, learning alongside friends from very different backgrounds." |
