Welcome to the Sefton Park Junior School home page. The provision of a caring, supportive learning environment in which all our pupils can achieve their best is our primary concern.
We are proud of our achievements in the last round of School league table data published by the DfEE. For your information we have attached a copy of the 1997 key stage 2 results. Out of the 96 schools in the City of Bristol we came a joint 12th overall.
Some exciting developments have taken place in School in the past few months and more are due to occur soon. A consortium of world famous companies is together sponsoring a project to install a server and 15 workstations in school. These will enable the children to browse the Internet (with suitable controls) and become familiar with many educational software packages. To find out more, please refer to the Fujitsu web site article "Fujitsu, Microsoft & ICL Team Up For NetPCs Trial In Schools".
In addition, the machines will allow teachers to more effectively gather and monitor information about children's progress. We have already started on this activity using a database tool developed specifically for our needs. A sample of the type of monitoring this allows can be seen by clicking on the "Teacher Assessment Product (TAP)" in the left margin.

Sefton Park Junior School Teacher Assessment Product (TAP)
The application currently in use at Sefton Park allows teachers to simply record their assessment of the standard that individual children have attained in each of the three key curriculum areas (English, Maths and Science).
At the press of a button the data can then be viewed graphically across a year group. The percentage of children at each level is automatically calculated from the underlying data. Therefore, when records are updated, no administrative overhead is incurred in maintaining summary data.
This has proved invaluable in determining where to concentrate resources. The pie chart below is a sample of the type of output available from this system.

All schools will be required to set themselves challenging targets for literacy during the summer 1998 term. Mathematics targets will follow soon after this. The information contained in this database will be extremely useful in agreeing achievable targets with the LEA.
Information is stored on a regular basis from the start of a child's progress through the school. This means the data collected can be very useful in tracking the progress of the individual child and determining the "value added" during the pupils time in the school.
There is considerable value in keeping all information on individual children together "in one place". For this reason future enhancements are planned that will extend the database to include areas such as Special Educational Needs data. This will also make passing information on to secondary schools more straightforward.
The software currently in use will be further developed and moved to a World Wide Web format in the near future. At some time in the not too distant future this could enable us to make selected areas of data available to all interested parties including parents.
