"To start with he didn't answer to his name, and in fact didn't seem to understand the concept of words. The only word he understood was NO. He was not housetrained, but got the idea within 24 hours. He was perplexed by the lead and his idea of a walk was ten paces, one long wee on the move, turn round, back home. He was frightened of open fields, and only liked to walk predefined paths. He wouldn't cross the threshold, or enter a room without being encouraged, and tried to make himself as invisible as possible. He had no idea what to do with toys, balls or bones, and is greatest pleasure was to lie on the grass with you and rub heads together. ………..

………. I took him with me everywhere and he gradually built up confidence and learned how to enjoy himself …….. he is the most laid back, contented dog I know. It's a real pleasure to have his affection and trust.

Extracts from a letter received by Welfare.

The Basset Griffon Vendeen Welfare is solely funded by kind donations, various fund raising events organised by club members and committee and the Limited Odds Draw organised by Audrey Herring on 01923-283367. The support we receive is excellent and all events are always well attended.

Welfare have rehomed the following numbers of dogs over the past few years :

  • 1993 : 5
  • 1994 : 8
  • 1995 : 5
  • 1996 : 4

If you would like more details of how you could help or if you need help in rehoming a Griff, please email us or call Julie Shelton on 01525-220383
